Creating A New Grid is a national fundraising event for a historic large scale community renewable energy project to create a 100% renewable energy future for Australia. Power On Renewables is a support network to assist the realisation of community renewable energy projects across Australia. Our first project is situated in Central Queensland near the proposed Carmichael coal mine. This community solar thermal co-operative has the potential to shift the local industry away from coal and into renewable energy by creating 4000 jobs and providing cheaper power to the community.

This event ‘Creating a new grid,’ is about generating the momentum and funding necessary to stop destructive industries, like the Adani carmichel mine & support the vision for 100% renewable energy.

Based on the premise that to really ‘Stop Adani’ we need to offer a positive vision and provide an alternative, ‘PowerOnAustralia’ has created a support network to assist community renewable energy projects, linking frontline activism with solution-based industries.

The first project we are suppprting is, ‘Sol Reflections,’ a community cooperative in central QLD proposing a 150 MGW concentrated solar thermal generator (CST) with the potential of powering over 90,000 homes and become a prime supplier of community energy in central QLD.

We would like to acknowledge the Original custodians of this land, we acknowledge the local Arawkal peoples and our local Widjabul/Wyabal elders of the Bunjalung region, we acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded and acknowledge all the local mob standing strong for their culture long-before our own environmental movements. Here, we acknowledge the Aboriginal Tent Embassy as the world longest standing protest site, the sacred fire burns strong within us all.

Starting with our local bio-region; we acknowledge all the environmental movements of this land, the work of the Terrenia Creek Protest& Franklin River dam protest and many of the campaigns within the cultural movement towards protection, Jabalouka, the Pilliga Push, Leard State Forest Campaign, Bentley and all our inspirational mentors that have passed on their wisdom through these movements.

In light of the transition of front-line movements into positive solutions, we acknowledge the work of our local community energy group COREM for their immense work in the vision of 100% renewable energy vision for our local bio-region. COREM, born from Bentley, inspires on the transition from resistance to positive solutions.

We acknowledge that these shows of resistance have had a massive impact on our culture and the formation of the ‘Stop Adani’ movement, which now has 160 mobilised groups nation-wide!
We hope with these learning that we are able to focus this momentum into positive solutions!
